Rimea is a region (also occasionally a country or empire) in eastern Abasatha. It is bordered by Vast to the north, Lina to the west, and Utua and Thobarak to the south. Its major city is Esparana. It has been a center of power in northern Hiltu for many hundreds of years. The empire traces its roots to the Abasathos Empire of Tintogen 1400 years ago.

History

Early History

The earliest inhabitants of the region were the Merkos and Orkos peoples. The Amiyar arrived in 2829, crossing Utua under the leadership of Kagnar. Though Kagnar went further north into Vast and established Kaglian Amal, an Amiyar settlement was left at Kaziku.

By 3200, the Rimea region was controlled by the Kings of the North based in Kaglian Amal. Several other Amiyar cities were established in Rimea at this time. However, wars with the Merkos population, as well as the Dzomog realm to the southwest, resulted in the destruction and desertion of many of those same cities, including Tanuk.

In 3420 a Merkos realm centered in Kaziku was formed. Though initially victorious against Kaglian Amal and Dzomog, it was defeated by the forces of Dzomog, who destroyed Kaziku in 3470. The city was not reinhabited.

Kaglian Amal and Tintogen

When the War of Pain ended in 3768, Rimea was taken from Dzomog and added to the growing kingdom of Kaglian Amal. Over the next 100 years, the region, along with much of Abasatha, received many Postera immigrants. Also in this time, the city of Waresea was first settled.

Vast and Rimea formed the core of the large empire of Tintogen, the Postera-Amiyar King of the North from 4000-4046. Upon his death, Rimea went to his third son Pareth, called Lord of the Mesh.

The Lords of the Mesh

The unbroken line of the Lords of the Mesh ruled Rimea for almost 900 years. Beginning in 4630 Rimea flourished, becoming the technological and artistic center of the world. They became an empire, based in Waresea, and controlled much of Hors, and parts of Peksa and Sela.

At the height of their power, in 4915, an assault on Analon was prepared, but the gods broke great rocks off from the underside of that world, and let them fall down upon Rimea. Waresea was completely destroyed, except for the district of Esparana. This disaster was called the Seven Autumns.

The Second Empire

By 5200 the Second Rimeos Empire had established itself. Esparana was the capital.

Customs

Rimea is a dominant culture in Abasatha, and their practices influence the rest of the subcontinent. Some notable (and warlike) customs: (1) human sacrifice, done by the high priest on the night of the Near Moon; (2) bathing in the blood of tsakirs; (3) the gift of small vials of human blood as a great honour.
